Arizona Transition to Organic Partnership Program

We support transitioning and current organic producers in Arizona with mentorship and resources.

As part of USDA's Organic Transition Initiative, TOPP is a five-year partnership program launched in 2023 to effectively train, mentor, and continually advise farmers who want to transition to certified organic production.

The Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems at Arizona State University is serving as the state lead for TOPP to support farmers across Arizona with farmer-to-farmer mentorship, technical assistance, workforce development, and community building.

The Pillars of Arizona TOPP

Mentorship Program
This program connects producers wanting to transition with experienced organic producers to serve as mentors. These mentors guide them through the transition process and offer valuable insights.

Technical Assistance
Arizona TOPP offers a variety of workshops, field days, and educational events across the state to provide in-person technical assistance and training on organic-specific resources and advising.

Community Building
To build strong connections within the organic agricultural community in Arizona, we are organizing and hosting conferences, workshops, and field days to facilitate networking and collaboration centered around organic.

Workforce Development
Arizona TOPP provides targeted training and education for the organic workforce, including the entire supply chain. Workforce development is key to our mission.

Get paid for helping farmers transition to organic

Arizona TOPP is actively seeking producers to serve as mentors and mentees. Certified organic producers who serve as mentors will receive payment for training, mentorship time, and travel. Mentees will also receive compensation.
